Marketing Intelligence for Roofers & Home Exterior Remodeling Companies

Press Release from Dataman Group Direct

According to the National Association of Home Builders, the life expectancy of an asphalt shingle/composition roof is about 20 years.

In an article in US News & World Report, Teresa Mears discussed The National Association of Home Builders survey of manufacturers, trade associations and researchers report called “ The Life Expectancy of Home Components ,” with estimates of life spans for everything from appliances to windows.

For Roofers, as well as all Exterior Home Remodelers, this is significant marketing intelligence to help them select the best prospects for their marketing and lead generation efforts.

We all know that the key to direct marketing response is to match the prospect list, creative & offer to the product. Roofers who target Home owners by Home Age and Roof Type   and   make a genuine offer, will generate new leads for their business.

Per the Report, in terms of exterior home remodeling, when it comes to Roofing, Windows & Doors, Decks, and Gutters, this is how long these home components typically last:

Roofs:   Slate, copper and tile roofs can last more than 50 years. Homeowners with wood shake roofs should expect them to last about 30 years, while fiber cement shingles last about 25 years and asphalt shingle/composition roofs last about 20 years, the NAHB found. This does not take into consideration climate and weather conditions, such as snow, hail and hurricanes, which can cut the life span of all types of roofs.

Windows:   Wood windows can last more than 30 years, while aluminum windows are expected to last 15 to 20 years.

Doors:   Exterior doors made of fiberglass, steel and wood will last for decades, or the lifetime of the house, as will closet doors, according to the NAHB study. Screen doors last about 40 years, and vinyl doors typically last about 20 years.

Decks:   Because of weather, the life span of a deck varies. In optimal conditions, a wood deck can last 20 years, the NAHB study found. A deck can last 20 to 25 years in dry areas, but is likely to last only 10 to 15 years in the South, where there is more rain and humidity. Deck contractors can even select home owners with pools.

Gutters :   Aluminum gutters last about 20 years, while copper gutters last about 50 years. BTW – in terms of marketing, new homeowners are the top market for gutter covers & toppers.
